CALL TODAY: SB995 Sample call script: call everyone on the committee but focus heavily on the two senators mentioned Senator Limon 916.651.4021 and Senator Cervantes 916.651.4031
if SB 995 is not passed on Thursday, it is dead.
"I have heard first hand about the inhumane conditions detainees are being subjected to in these detention centers. Any and all legislation to force them to adhere to CA state health and safety standards must be passed. So please vote yes on SB995. The local governments are not getting it done. We need our state government to be the firewall against federal overreach they were intended to be.”
URGENT CALL TO ACTION – TOMORROW, MAY 12th at 5PM PT
We have an opportunity to show that our protests are not simply performative but can truly impact the decision makers in our state by showing up at California City’s City Council meeting tomorrow, 5/12 at 5PM. If you’re able to make the trip and be there in person – PLEASE DO! If you can log in to attend virtually – PLEASE DO!

The elected leaders in Cal City have refused pro-bono legal support that would allow them to use the existing legislation to stop the Concentration Camp from opening – despite repeated offers and passionate demands from CA residents. The ACLU, Delores Huertas Foundation, Dignity Not Detention, and Shut Down Core Civic in Cal City Coalition therefore sued the city for allowing CoreCivic to bypass local laws and reopen the shuttered private prison to hold ICE detainees without due process.
The hearing for this lawsuit is FINALLY being heard on June 2nd and TOMORROW, MAY 12TH AT 5PM is the last City Council meeting before the hearing. We need all residents in CA who want to hold ICE and the Federal Government accountable for bypassing state and local laws to attend this meeting and let Mayor Marquette and the City Council members know that their actions impact FAR MORE than the local residents in California City.
