Canvas to Flip California Congressional District 22

September 19, 7:30am-4pm

Join Northeast Los Angeles Alliance for Democracy and Indivisible Altadena-Pasadena in a caravan that matters on Saturday, from South Pasadena to Bakersfield, to canvass for progressive Democrat Randy Villegas in his bid to unseat Republican David Valadao from Congress.

Join us Saturday, September 19, at 7:30 a.m. at the South Pasadena Metro Station parking lot at 807 S. Meridian Avenue, for free underground parking. We will quickly get carpools organized for the two-hour trip to Bakersfield.
We’ll get up early to go to Bakersfield to help flip California Congressional District 22, one of the competitive districts in the midterm elections that could determine if the Democrats gain control of the House. The Cook Political Report ranks the race as a toss-up, so help Villegas win by signing up to canvas here.

Clear the Road to Freedom! An Interfaith Pilgrimage of Witness and Solidarity

A sacred journey from Adelanto ICE Detention Center to the Metropolitan Detention Center and Federal Building in Los Angeles to draw attention and cry out for immediate action to end the deplorable conditions and deaths at the detention centers throughout California and across the country. Now is the time to end cruel immigration policy and ICE detention centers.

Organized by Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), Nefesh LA, and Sacred Resistance, in partnership with No Camps California, Shut Down Adelanto Coalition, and Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, and Matthew 25.

We invite the community to join us in this 96.5 mile multifaith pilgrimage. It will mark the next chapter in a daily practice of faithful witness and action by clergy and the faithful in immigration courts, detention centers, offices of policy makers, houses of worship and people’s homes as we tend and advocate for the dignity and safety of our immigrant community members.

As religious leaders and community, we will walk to bring awareness for the targeted immigrant community, and to serve as a voice of protest for those for whom it is not safe to speak out.

You are welcome to come for a day or part of a day. Please register by 9/21 if you would like to join as a day walker. We especially encourage you to join on September 29 (Day 1) when we begin at the Adelanto Detection Center and the last day October 6 when we arrive in Los Angeles. Days 4-8 we will be walking on more accessible roads that will allow for wheelchairs and other mobility assisted devices. (Days 2 and 3 will be on not accessible roads and trails as they are the only path available).
A note on the walk: We will walk from 12-16 miles a day for many days in a row on both roads and rugged terrain. If you are wanting to join for the full pilgrimage, please register by Monday 9/14 so we can prepare for the logistics of your lodging and food. We will have an information and orientation session for full pilgrimage walkers and day walkers. Please join us on Thursday September 17 at 6:30pm on zoom for this session. We will send you an email with the zoom. Now is the time to start getting ready for this length of distance with daily walking.

Powerful LA Vigil to Demand Justice for Lorenzo. Justice for Johan. Justice for All. ABOLISH ICE

On July 25, in downtown Los Angeles, a coalition of over 50 organizations and faith leaders gathered for a funeral procession to honor the lives of those murdered by ICE. This “Justice for All” action was initiated by the National Disappeared in America Coalition, with which we at NELA Alliance partner.

Over 70 coffins moved through the city—each one representing a life, a family, and a future taken too soon.

We are speaking out against ICE’s brutality and the elected officials who enable it. Thanks to the many hands and hearts it took to make over these coffins in a week, and paired with the ‘Killed by ICE’ placards as an undeniable visual of what is being done to our people.
